The Sultan Family reunion 2015
he family had grown over past 60 years since the passing of Hajee ML Sultan, to the sixth generation.
In November 2015 a ML Sultan Family Reunion was held for the first time bringing together over almost 300 members of the now six generations of his family.
The reunion was held at a local School in Parlock in Durban, South Africa.
The well orchestrated event with several months of meticulous planning was extremely successful in bringing together most of the family who could attend including a few of the surviving older members ranging from the 96 year old, son-in-law Osman Amod, Mrs Salima Sultan and to the recent arrival infants in the family.
The event was an all day event with MC for the day Mr Alan Kahn, and the key note address presented by Mr Ahmed Bawa, the Dean of the ML Sultan Technicon (now referred to as Durban University of Technology after the merger with Technicon Natal).
Other speakers included members of the Sultan family, including Yunus Sultan, Zaheera Abdulla, Shehnaaz Mohideen, an audio clip on behalf of Razzia Rahmatula from London and a video speech from Dr Mohammed Iqbal Sultan from Brisbane, Australia.
The scrumptious catered meals, deserts, kids activities, displays of the family trees and displayed artifacts from the previous generations, were just a part of the days events which depicted the attention to every detail in ensuring it would be a reunion to be remembered.
The reunion re-ignited the passion and drive among the the next generation of the Sultan family, to consider the magnanimous contribution made by their great grandfather, and their yearning to know more about his legacy became apparent.
The reunion rekindled family relationships and inter-generational relationships way beyond the day of this reunion, in the months and years since.

Tribute to Hajee ML Sultan at the Family Reunion
Poem by grand daughter Shehnaaz Sultan Mohideen
Poem by grand daughter Shehnaaz Sultan Mohideen
"Today, we honour the late Hajee M. L. Sultan
Who lived a life of strong in Imaan.
He lived a life of simplicity and humility,
Yet Allah SWT blessed him with such publicity and prosperity.
A man who made his mark in the field of education.
By creating an institute for a deprived and struggling nation.
Yes, he served the nation's educational needs,
By putting aside his pride and greed!
We, the descendants of M L Sultan and Mariam Bee,
Have today gathered here, U and me,
For the sake of family unity.
For this is the way we need to be.
We need to strengthen family ties,
For herein love and unity lies.
We ask Allah to keep this strong for generations and generations that will come along.
We salute ML Sultan for whom he was.
We salute him for how he lived.
We salute him for what he achieved...!
Let us today also salute all those who made this function possible!
For it is today that we have remembered Hajee M L Sultan and learnt so much more about him.
May Allah SWT grant our grandparents M L Sultan & Mariam Bee, and all members of the Sultan
family and all other Marhooms Jannat ul Firdaus…
AMEEN."
