The Sultan Family reunion 2015
The family had grown over past 60 years since the passing of Hajee ML Sultan, to the sixth generation.
In November 2015 a ML Sultan Family Reunion was held for the first time bringing together over almost 300 members of the now six generations of his family.
The reunion was held at a local School in Parlock in Durban, South Africa.
The well orchestrated event with several months of meticulous planning was extremely successful in bringing together most of the family who could attend including a few of the surviving older members ranging from the 96 year old, son-in-law Osman Amod, Mrs Salima Sultan and to the recent arrival infants in the family.
The event was an all day event with MC for the day Mr Alan Kahn, and the key note address presented by Mr Ahmed Bawa, the Dean of the ML Sultan Technicon (now referred to as Durban University of Technology after the merger with Technicon Natal).
Other speakers included members of the Sultan family, including Yunus Sultan, Zaheera Abdulla, Shehnaaz Mohideen, an audio clip on behalf of Razzia Rahmatula from London and a video speech from Dr Mohammed Iqbal Sultan from Brisbane, Australia.
The scrumptious catered meals, deserts, kids activities, displays of the family trees and displayed artifacts from the previous generations, were just a part of the days events which depicted the attention to every detail in ensuring it would be a reunion to be remembered.
The reunion re-ignited the passion and drive among the the next generation of the Sultan family, to consider the magnanimous contribution made by their great grandfather, and their yearning to know more about his legacy became apparent.
The reunion rekindled family relationships and inter-generational relationships way beyond the day of this reunion, in the months and years since.
